In the past 9 weeks, there has been no day as beautiful as today. Clear blue skies, mid-50s, sunny. I took advantage by sitting on the patio area of my building for a few hours to "tan" (on my face, exclusively, since I was still in jeans and a coat). Shadows actually can exist, even though I was starting to forget about them. Just like how I was forgetting the feeling of organic warmth from the sun. Today was the day to soak in every drop of sunlight, before launching into yet another full week of rain and clouds. (Sidenote: the sun, even on cloudy days reflecting off the sidewalk, actually burns my eyes. What is this city doing to me?!)
My roommate, some other co-ops and I ventured to the Olympic Sculpture Park today, which is a short walk, close to the Space Needle. The park is a free extension of the Seattle Art Museum, which is located in downtown Seattle (the actual museum is free on the first Thursday of every month, so April 3rd is already marked in my calendar). It is refreshing, almost surprising, to come out of thick clusters of downtown city buildings and emerge in a lush, spacious, green park overlooking Elliott Bay and the Puget Sound. It is a tourist attraction for the art, but a local attraction for the running/bike trails, picnic areas and general break from the city. Overall a really great place to be on a beautiful day like today.
And we already have plans for the next really nice day! Kerry Park in Queen Anne, which supposedly has the best view of the city. The next day like today might not happen again until June, so stay tuned!
Next weekend is the much anticipated trip back to Boston! Friday morning to Sunday night, staying in my apartment, drinking Dunkin' Donuts, walking familiar streets and I CAN'T WAIT! So I don't have fun new Seattle activities to look forward to this week, but old, comfortable ones will be just as good. :)
