Never in a trillion years did I think I would be in 2 different cities within the same year while they win national championships. The energy and excitement at the end of the game is unmatchable. The Boston Red Sox World Series win was incredible, but the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl win tonight just might have been better.
First of all, my interest and understanding of football is light years ahead of baseball. Therefore, I can really get into the game and follow what is actually happening. I didn't even watch game 6 of the World Series, just the last inning. So my personal involvement in the game was significantly greater tonight, when I watched almost every minute.
Also, everything is based on perspective; Boston sports teams have seen 35 major titles in their history. Before tonight, Seattle had 1: the SuperSonics won the NBA Finals in 1979, 35 years ago. Seattle fans are not used to having good teams, so they deserve a big win like this more than anyone.
I have gathered from locals that they never considered the Seahawks to be a "Super Bowl team," so when they started winning this season, fans didn't get their hopes up. Tonight proved that the anticipation was worth it and the celebrations that followed the slaughter of the Denver Broncos was definitely something to remember.
Seattle fans are very different from Boston fans. They don't flip cars when they're happy. Instead, they flap their arms (like seahawks...get it...?), high-five cops and throw Skittles into the crowded streets. Some of the other co-ops and I got into the middle of one of the street "riots" and cheered and shouted and joined the bandwagon. I didn't see any violence or aggression, just honest pride. The love these people have for their team like nothing I've ever seen before.
The parade is on Wednesday at 11:00 am and I guarantee my entire office will be attending, so stay tuned for those pictures! Second parade in 6 months woo!
