(times are estimated)
8:00 am-11:00 am: sunny, blue skies
11:00-11:30: cloudy, light rain
11:30-11:40: dark, downpour
11:40-12:00 pm: rain is blowing sideways, world is ending
12:00-12:05: rain stops, still cloudy
12:05-12:30: sun is shining!!! days are good. My roommate and I decide to go shopping
12:30-12:40: put shoes and coat on, wait for elevator
12:40: raining (...shopping in the rain is not fun)
I CAN'T WIN!
I have learned that every day is not a question of whether or not it will rain, but rather how much will it rain? Like is it an intense downpour or just a light drizzle? Is it enough rain that shoes get ruined during the sprint to work or should I wear rain boots? Do I actually need a rain jacket or just a coat with a hood? Weather forecasts don't even help because basically all day of everyday has about a 40% chance of rain. How am I supposed to make decisions from that?
On my second day at work, a girl on my team told me that no one in Seattle cares about their appearance because they're usually wet and gross. I have a hard time coming to terms with this idea, because the east coast is very appearance-driven. But regardless of how I feel about it, it's true. My hair does not respond well to rain and humidity. It is now in a constant state of frizz. Or half of it gets really curly and the other half is straight. Or the short hairs at the front stick out at weird angles while the rest of it behaves. It's like one long bad hair day and I'm glad that no one cares about it.
To summarize, there is no consistency in anything weather-related. A day can have 4 climates. One day has no impact on the next. It's not like the east coast when you have one entire day that is rainy and then it's over. Since it rains every day, it's never an excuse not to do something. If you don't go out when it's raining, you would never leave your apartment. Therefore, every day has endless opportunities!
The bright side of this weather madness is that when I get back to Boston, a rainy day won't phase me. I'll be so used to rain that I won't even mind it. And when it is sunny, it will be even more exciting! That is the light at the end of this long, dark rainy tunnel.

I love your blog!
