Madrid: Parte Dos

It's crazy how much of a comfort level I have in Madrid since I was only here for a week. But coming back to the capitol after a month on the coast is oddly invigorating. I'm eating at my "old-favorite" places, seeig familiar sights and getting back into the rhythm.

After a hellish bus ride (bus broke down, waited an hour for a new one, kids puking, traffic jam), we finally got into Madrid at around 10 pm on Sunday. Then I got tapas at a cool place where they have a buffet of skewers/kebabs and you pay by the number of skewers you have at the end. 1 euro each on Sundays! Woo!

On Monday, we had a tour of the Palacio Real, or royal palace. No one has lived there since 1931, but they still do all of the official royalty stuff there, like sign the papers when King Juan Carlos I abdicated to Prince Felipe about a month ago. No pictures allowed inside :( but it was so cool! Every room is decorated in a different color and theme, and it is massive. 1,700 rooms total and they told us we only saw less than 1% of them in our 2 hour tour. Craziness. There was one room that had silk covering the walls, ceiling, and every piece of furniture. Where does this money come from?! So cool!

Then we had the final goodbye dinner at a fancy restaurant in Madrid. It had so many courses: gazpacho, tomato and mozzarella salad, ham croquettes,  steak & potatoes, and cheesecake. SO GOOD.

I wrote this post on the last day in Madrid but I'm posting it the next day (Tuesday) from the Philly airport. It's so great to speak English to everyone again! I'm staying in Boston tonight,  then finally going home to Maryland tomorrow.  WOOHOO!!!!

So I think this is the end of this blog for now. Ill be in Maryland for the rest of August then moving back to Boston for classes in September. Thanks for reading my adventures this year :) I hope it was as fun to read as it was to write!
